Matsushita Making Progress on Double-Layer Blu-Ray Disc

According to a recent report by the Nihon Keizai Shimbun, Matsushita is making progress in the development of double-layer Blu-ray discs as the company is planning to start sample shipments to major film studios in January 2006. The new disc has a storage capacity of 50GB, and is a successor to the company's single-layer Blu-ray, which can store 25GB of data and which is already in mass production.
